The brand new custom designed hotel
barge – the Madeleine – features twelve outward facing cabins with windows or
portholes and private bathrooms, a spacious lounge and dining room, air
conditioning and a fleet of bicycles for the use of the guests, who are looked
after by a team of five highly-qualified and experienced crew. The Madeleine
operates in Alsace, from Strasbourg to Lagarde. Adored by boating tours, this
part of the canal, also known as the Greenway, crosses the plain of Alsace and
the Vosges. It links Strasbourg and Saverne - the entryway to Alsace at the foot
of the Vosges Mountains - and continues through a grand forest to Lutzelbourg in
the Lorraine region. Its spectacular architecture and many structural works
include the Saint-LouisArzviller inclined plane - unique in Europe – where boats
are hoisted along the cliff before reaching Xouaxange - a charming small town in
the Lorraine.
