Forget the airport bus, grab a husky sledge to your hotel

Imagine arriving at your holiday destination, but as you leave the airport, instead of being picked up by a minibus or coach, you are greeted by the site of a husky sledge, to whisk you off across the snow-covered landscape to your hotel.
Well, from Winter 2014, Hurtigruten can make that a reality with the introduction of optional husky transfers between Kirkenes Airport and the SnowHotel.
On arrival at Kirkenes airport, customers will be given all the suitable clothing to make the 45 minute journey by husky sledge to the hotel. They needn’t worry about whether their luggage will fit on the sledge as it will follow by a more common mode of transport - a mini-bus.
The transfers will be available to customers flying into Kirkenes for a ‘Classic Voyage South’, but who are staying overnight at the SnowHotel in Kirkenes for a night before joining the ship.
Hurtigruten offer a six day ‘Classic Voyage South’ travelling from Kirkenes to Bergen, including a night at the SnowHotel and flights from £1,558 per person, departing from London on a variety of dates in December 2014. The price is based on two people sharing.
Husky transfers cost an additional £289 per person, based on two people sharing a sledge.

Hurtigruten’s ships travel up and down the coastline of Norway from Bergen in the South to Kirkenes in the North calling at 34 ports along the way, most never visited by the larger cruise liners. There is no dressing for dinner and no fighting for the Captain’s table – this journey is about experiencing what this beautiful country has to offer. With excursions ranging from husky sledging and snowmobiling in the winter to a King crab safari and whale watching in the Summer, there are a whole host of incredible experiences.
