Day five with Hurtigruten in Greenland

Welcome to Uummannaq with different kinds of tours, excursions  today etc.  Some of us went to the museum to listen to a local who told us all about life here. There are some fantastic pictures taken about 150 years ago outside on the fence where you can really get a feel for life in the town then.

The Church is the only one made out of rocks still being used in Greenland and is very beautiful.  Hurtigruten had organised a boat tour to the place where the famous Qilakitsoq mummies were found. A big group of us joined the hike to Santa’s hut to see if he was home and some went out on a helicopter. I investigated the town a bit more and loved the surviving turf houses and blubber house.

In the evening we anchored off Ukkusissat  a small settlement of some 60 souls and some of them came on board for singing and dancing on Deck 7. Afterwards we went ashore and spent some time with them and had a great chat with the children and a kick about!
