This Sunday, 3rd August, Viking Cruises will be sponsoring the Heroes
at Highclere main stage. The event is a special family day out commemorating the
start of WW1 in August 1914, held at the stunning Highclere Castle, best known
as home to the hit show Downtown Abbey.
Hosted by The Earl and Countess of
Carnarvon, this one-day special event sees the castle turned back to the
original First World War hospital, equipped with a vintage 1914 operating
theatre. The event will begin with a church service led by Archbishop Lord
Carey, accompanied by the Military Wives Choir on the main ‘Viking Cruises’
sponsored stage. It will also welcome musical acts including X Factor’s
Alexandra Burke and Elizabeth McGovern (also known as Lady Cora, the head of the
Crawley family in Downtown abbey) performing with her band ‘Sadie and the hot
heads’.
Viking will be helping Heroes at
Highclere to support and raise money for Oxfam, The Royal British Legion, ABF,
The Soldiers Charity, Combat Stress, charities supporting veterans as well as
other smaller charities. With thrilling aerial displays from the Red Devils,
vintage fairground rides, tethered hot air balloon flights and more, there is
plenty of fun to be had by all the family whilst raising money for these
fantastic causes.
