The Falkland Islands is looking
forward to another good year for tourism according to the latest figures
released by the Falkland Islands Tourist Board (FITB), with inbound tourist
arrivals set to grow by 18.7 percent in 2014 to over 5,600 visitors and cruise
passenger arrivals forecast to reach over 34,000.
Overall visitor arrivals
(including inbound tourists, cruise passengers and domestic tourists) are
expected to total almost 59,000, spending over £9.1 million. The total number of
UK visitors (land based) is expected to top 3,000 in 2014, up 20 percent on last
year.
Preliminary figures for the first
half of 2014 (January to June) show the islands have already welcomed around
3,000 land based tourist arrivals, up by over 15 percent year on year.
Norwegian
Cruise Lines will be
returning to the Falkland Islands in December 2015. The 14-day voyage on board
the Norwegian Sun will include a stop off in Stanley in the Falklands as well as
Puerto Montt, Chile; Puerto Chacabuco, Chile; Punta Arenas, Chile; Ushuaia,
Argentina; Puerto Madryn, Argentina; and Montevideo, Uruguay. Guests on board
will also enjoy a scenic cruise through the Chilean Fjords, Strait of Magellan
