Star Clippers is offering two opportunities to sail into the Panama Canal

Tall ship sailing specialist Star Clippers are a favourite with World of Cruising readers and are offering two opportunities to sail into the Panama Canal this year, the centenary of what’s been designated one of the seven wonders of the modern world. Both sailings will be on the four-masted Star Flyer as part of either a 14-day and a nine-day Caribbean cruise, in November.

Star Clippers’ two Panama Canal voyages are as follows:

Flights extra.

·         Star Flyer then returns to her winter cruising base of Cienfuegos, Cuba, departing Balboa on November 23, sailing into the Panama Canal and then calling at ports in Colombia and the Cayman Islands as well as Casilda in Cuba (for the historic city of Trinidad). From £1,765 for nine nights, including full board on the ship and port taxes. Flights extra.

Holland America's Korean Visit

We know here at World of Cruising that the Far east is a becoming more and more popular with our readers. So here then is a great tour  from Holland America that calls in at Seoul and the island of Jeju, Korea.

Small mountains called Oreum in the Jeju dialect are found all across the island.

Holland America appeal to cruisers who prefer mid-sized ships, personalized service and five stat dining. Their 31 night Grand Pacifc and Far East Voyage departs Sept 21 and visits Alaska, japan, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, Nagasaki and Hong Kong. Prices start from £76269.

Carnival Freedom multi-million-dollar makeover

Carnival have told World of Cruising that Carnival Freedom will undergo an extensive multi-million-dollar makeover this spring that will add the first-ever Bookville area – part of the recently launched Seuss at Sea program in partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises – along with a variety of dining, bar and entertainment innovations that are part of the line’s Fun Ship 2.0 product enhancement initiative.

The majority of these exciting new features will be incorporated during a dry dock that will take place in Freeport, The Bahamas, from 19th April to 3rd May,  with Bookville scheduled to be completed by the departure of 24th May. Carnival Freedom’s schedule from Fort Lauderdale encompasses two new five-day itineraries – one visiting Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman or Cozumel and the other calling at Grand Turk, Nassau and the private Bahamian island of Half Moon Cay.

These new choices complement the ship’s six-day cruises that call at Key West, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel or Ocho Rios; and three different eight-day voyages including four-port eastern and southern Caribbean departures. These unique eight-day cruises visit a variety of exciting destinations including Grand Turk, St. Thomas, Antigua, St. Maarten, Aruba and Curacao.
