Douro Discovery Jazz with Saga

The Dixie Ramblers, lead by John Shillito, will offer a timeless and entertaining repertoire on Saga’s Douro Discovery Jazz river cruise.
Embark the 80-passenger Douro Princess for the themed full-board river cruise and spend a week soaking up the sounds of jazz, blues and boogie woogie while meandering through Portugal and Spain.
Pass vineyards and pretty towns along the Douro Valley including UNESCO World Heritage Site Salamanca, with its Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and baroque monuments. Admire the city’s twin cathedrals and main square, before sitting down to a traditional lunch at a local restaurant.
Sail on to the ancient city of Lamego, boasting a castle and gothic Church of Nossa Senhora dos Remedios. Continue east to explore the medieval town of Figueira Castelo de Rodrigo.

Further highlights include 17th century Casa de Mateus Palace, considered to be the most beautiful baroque buildings in Portugal, and, of course, no visit to the Douro would be complete without tasting port in the cellars of Oporto.

7 nights from £1499, departing October 21, 2015. Price includes six jazz performances and two talks, UK travel service, full board, wine, beer or soft drinks with lunch and dinner, six excursions, Saga tour manager and travel insurance.
