Pandaw River Expeditions launches new cruises on the Brahmaputra River in north-east India

Pandaw has announced its new eight-day Brahmaputra River programme on board MV Mahabaahu. The itineraries will commence in March 2015, offering Pandaw guests an off-the-beaten track, luxury exploration of the Assam region in the north-east of India.

The Brahmaputra River is the only navigable river in the world from which the 6,500 metre high, snow covered Himalaya mountains can be seen. It is also the only river, apart from the Zambezi River in Africa, where elephant, jeep and boat safaris are found together. Guests will experience the rich living culture of the Assam region with visits to temples, tribal villages, monasteries, ancient palaces and tea estates.

In addition to the cruise, Pandaw also offers pre and post stays in luxury five-star hotels in Delhi and Kol-kata, including domestic connecting flights.

New Indian River Cruise Options

Cruises on the rivers of India have become a significant new addition to the great river-cruise choice of the world in recent years, and India's Assam Bengal Navigation are a great example of this growing trend.

 

There are some 1,750 miles of navigable waterway along rivers like the Brahmaputra, Hugli and Ganges, and ABN have just launched their third ship, which will begin voyages next year.

The ABN Rajmahal was launched in Calcutta, a sleek 22-cabin vessel specially designed with extra-shallow draught, triple engines and low air draught, for the line's pioneering City of Light cruises between Patna and Varanasi .

 

These innovative 7-night cruises will operate in August and September 2014, the only months river conditions allow. During the winter months, the ship will be taking over the

current programme of cruises on the Hugli and the Ganges, with her maiden voyage scheduled for February 15.

 

Brahmaputra Cruises In October

Assam in October is a joy, with good weather, lush scenery, clear views and easy cruising, making for a perfect combination with Darjeeling, Sikkim or Bhutan. ABN's Frontier Lands cruises are ideal for this time of year, sailing between Guwahati and Dhubri. These feature tea gardens, a Maharajah's palace, archaeological sites, temples and silk weaving, and the joining point at Cooch Behar can be reached in a little over two hours by train from New Jalpaiguri.
