P&O launches 'This Is The Life' TV campaign on Christmas Day

Rob Brydon is to be the face of P&O Cruises in a TV advertising campaign launching on Christmas Day. The ad is part of a multi-million pound campaign designed to attract both seasoned cruisers and new-to-cruise travellers alike across a wide age gap.

The commercial, built around the slogan "This Is The Life," looks at a P&O Cruises holiday through the eyes of Brydon.  Through his witty observations he explains the core offerings of the cruise line to viewers, including the British heritage, the choice of dining and entertainment, the hospitality as well as the destinations and pace of life on-board.

The tone of the campaign is simple and down-to-earth. The ad launches on Christmas Day and will be first shown on ITV during Coronation Street.

Emerald Waterways are also launching their latest advert on Christmas Day as part of their biggest ever television ad campaign.

Voiced by India Fisher the advert promotes both the experience on-board Emerald Waterways’ Star-Ships and their January Sale. The sale offers savings of up to £1,000 per couple on selected European river cruises. The river cruise line claims to have sold over 80 per cent of capacity for 2015 and have released additional dates and itineraries.

The Emerald Waterways advert will air on ITV just before the Queen’s speech.

New Issue Out Next Week!

There's a real river cruising extravaganza in store for the second edition of World of Cruising magazine for 2014, which is due out next week.

There is an unprecedented array of new ships, itineraries and even a brand new cruise line, Emerald Waterways, on the rivers of Europe this spring, and we are reflecting all of that in our extensive News and feature coverage, as well as something a bit further afield.

Our Cover Story is a look at the growing range and style of UK tour specialists Titan Travel in conjunction with Uniworld Boutique River Cruises, while we also look at life in the slow lane with the deluxe manner of European Waterways in Burgundy.

To complete our triumvirate of river-going opulence, Contributing Editor Gary Buchanan heads to Kerala in India to sample the sumptuous style of Oberoi Resorts aboard their five-star Oberoi Vrinda river vessel.

But that is only the start of our latest journey in the wide World of Cruising. We have some big-ship offerings, too, with the likes of Norwegian Cruise Line's new Norwegian Getaway and the forthcoming Regal Princess of Princess Cruises plus a look at the varied luxury realm of Silversea Cruises on their 20th anniversary and the tempting cuisine of Azamara Club Cruises.

For destinations, we visit Turkey, St Maarten, Costa Rica and, by way of complete contrast, the Arctic, for a preview of this summer’s Polar cruising season.

All our regular features are back, of course, with a look at Life On Board, the CLIA View, Sea Social Media and columnists like Captain Greybeard, The Cruise Guy, Cruise Radio and Silver Travel Advisor.

And there’s our essential World of Spas section, with news of a wonderful tie-up between Celebrity Cruises and the Canyon Ranch spa group, as well as our fab Beauty File.

Once again, it all adds up to a thoroughly memorable voyage, both sea-going and river-borne, so step up the gangway and prepare to set sail…

Orbital Travel Expands Nile Fleet

The River Nile continues to be an overlooked travel destination this year with so much focus at the moment on all the new river-cruise ships in Europe (and yesterday's announcement of super-model Twiggy as godmother to the new Emerald Waterways - see this link!), but Orbital Travel are determined to remedy that.

The luxury travel specialists have just added the five-star MS Royal Esadora to their Nile cruise programme, bringing their array of offerings on the great river to five.

The Royal Esadora was launched in March 2006 and completely renovated in 2009. This modern, stylish Nile cruiser also offers funky surroundings and guestrooms with contemporary spacious interiors.

Facilities include a large sundeck with bar, large swimming pool and Jacuzzi. There are two restaurants on board, one being a buffet style with international cuisine, and the other being slightly smaller offering an à la carte menu. Royal Esadora has 62 cabins with foursuites with large picture windows and Juliet balconies from which to admire the unfolding scenery.

Prices for a 7-night cruise lead in at £659 per person on Full Board and £719 per person on All Inclusive. The cruise includes 7 nights’ accommodation (upper/middle deck cabin), flights, transfers and 12 excursions escorted by a qualified Egyptologist.

Orbital Travel also offers four other 5-star Nile cruisers, namely the MS Monica, the Domina Prestige, the HS Nile Vision and the MS Mayfair.

'Godmother' Twiggy For Emerald

Stylish new river-cruise line Emerald Waterways have announced that super-model, actress and British icon Twiggy will be godmother to their first two ships.

The first of the revolutionary Star-class vessels will be officially named in Amsterdam on April 9 by the trend-setting star of runway, stage, screen and music, who will join the Emerald Star for its maiden voyage to Basel.

Twiggy will then perform the naming ceremony for sister ship Emerald Sky in June.

Emerald Waterways are a brand new name on the European river-cruise scene this year and aim to be different from the start, with an all-new ship design and a fresh approach that also hopes to appeal to a younger audience.

The two ships will both feature state-of-the-art features like the on-board swimming pool that converts into an evening cinema, as well as optional alfresco dining when permissible. And the christening and maiden voyage will be featured in depth in the May issue of World of Cruising.

An Emerald spokesman explained: "We’re extremely excited to announce our first ‘Star-Ships’ will be christened by none other than a British style icon. Think ‘Twiggy’ and words
like iconic, trendsetter, chic and stylish spring to mind – the exact words we had in mind when we carefully sculpted our ships.

"So there really was no one better to appoint as Godmother of our revolutionary vessels than the world’s first supermodel, who set the benchmark for those who followed.

"Ahead of the christening in Amsterdam, we visited our ships in their final stage of production and were extremely impressed by their incredibly sleek, stylish and innovative interior.

"Perfectly accessorised with cutting-edge features and contemporary décor, like Twiggy, our ships will set the standard for future generations. And we’re delighted Twiggy will be on the front row as their striking designs are unveiled."
