Barcelona Bags A Biggie!

Royal Caribbean is bringing its mega-ship cruising to the Mediterranean for a full season for the first time in 2015 when the 220,000-ton Allure of the Seas will sail a series of cruises from the Spanish port of Barcelona.

After carrying more than two million passengers to date in the Caribbean, Allure will return to Europe - from where it was delivered by STX Finland in late 2010 - to operate for five months next year.

The impressive vessel will arrive in Barcelona in May and sail from the port until October.  Royal Caribbean's mega-ship deployment follows the announcement of a short Mediterranean season for Oasis of the Seas this autumn.

Allure's seven-night cruises will visit Palma de Mallorca, Marseilles (for Provence), La Spezia (for Florence and Pisa), Civitavecchia (for Rome) and Naples. Passengers will also have the option to join the ship in Civitavecchia for a week-long cruise starting and ending in the Italian port.

Royal Caribbean’s Crown & Anchor Society loyalty programme members also have the opportunity to book for this rare European season starting on Wednesday (Feb 12), one week before general bookings open on February 18.

In addition, the line's Rhapsody of the Seas will offer three 10 and 11-night Black Sea itineraries from Istanbul, then sail a variety of 7 to 11-night Greece and Turkey itineraries from Civitavecchia while Splendour of the Seas will offer seven-night Greek Isles and Turkey cruises from Venice.

Allure has sailed year-round from Port Everglades since entering service as well as sister ship Oasis of the Seas, which debuted in 2009. This year's Mediterranean season for Oasis in September consists of several cruises round-trip Barcelona and one from Barcelona to Rotterdam, where the ship will enter dry-dock for routine maintenance. It then returns to Port Everglades in October.

Mediterranean Marvels From MSC

Soak up the sun or sail through history – from just £599pp

MSC Cruises are highlighting another one of their Mediterranean summer series this week, with a great chance to sample both sun and history. Here are the details:

From May to November, MSC Sinfonia will be setting off from Genoa on a series of 7-night cruises around the western Mediterranean, calling in St Tropez in France, Palma de Mallorca and Menorca in Spain, and Olbia and Salerno on Italy’s beautiful Emerald and Amalfi coasts.

After glorious sandy beaches, endless cafes, bars and shops, and celeb spotting in yacht-filled marinas in St Tropez on the spectacular Cote D’Azur, next stop is the charming Palma de Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, where travellers can bask on beautiful beaches as well as enjoying the party island’s mythical day-to-night transformation during an overnight stay and full day in port.

A visit to the island of Menorca, dotted with picturesque villages and an array of historical and cultural sights, would not be complete without a trip to one of the island’s more than 50 stunning beaches and the crystal clear waters which make it easy to adapt to the rhythm of Mediterranean life. From Spain to Italy’s unspoilt Emerald Coast, one of the most beautiful stretches of the Mediterranean coastline with its breath-taking mountainous, rocky landscapes and white sandy beaches with turquoise waters.

Last stop Salerno in the Campania region is renowned for its vibrant and bustling Centro Storico and its lovely medieval churches, as well as its proximity to the famously picturesque Amalfi Coast, popular not only for its stunning scenery and beaches but also for its fantastic cuisine, where delicious fish and pasta dishes taste all the better with the backdrop of a breathtaking sea view.

MSC's New Balearic Bliss

Bask on beautiful beaches and go wild in famous clubs with MSC' unique new itinerary - from just £599 per person, including flights

With seven days of stunning sights, beautiful beaches and legendary Balearic beats, MSC Orchestra’s 2013 summer cruises are the perfect formula for sun worshippers seeking the very best of the Balearic Islands and other top Mediterranean spots. With fly-cruise prices starting from just £599 per person, there has never been a better opportunity to experience the best of the Balearics.

From 14 June to 18 October 2013, MSC Orchestra will depart every Friday from Genoa on a diverse western Mediterranean itinerary spanning the magnificent monuments of Rome and Palermo to the Balearic beaches of Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza, as well as the charming old town of Villefranche-sur-Mer on the French Riviera.

Specially tailored to include Spain’s famous party islands and their mythical day-to-night transformation, the itinerary includes an overnight call in Palma de Mallorca and a day and night in Ibiza. Travellers can explore these popular night spots on their own or make the most of organized excursions such as Ibiza Sunset, a trip to the celebrated sunset strip and world-famous Café del Mar for a spectacular sundown, or Playa D’en Bossa By Night, for an unforgettable evening with the international party crowd at famous nightclubs Space, Ushuaia and Bora Bora.

During the day, travellers can bask on popular beaches or enjoy Ibiza’s lesser known scenic and cultural spots; the quaint villages, quiet coves and local markets which reveal another face of the island. An excursion to neighbouring Formentera is another great option, for a visit to the charming town of Es Pujols and the soft, white sands of an island known for the ravishing beauty of its coastline.

Additional highlights include Italy’s stunning capital city, Rome, the beautiful treasure-trove of palaces, castles and churches to be discovered in Palermo, and the fabulous Côte d'Azur region of the French Riviera, including Nice and Monaco, just a short journey away from Villefranche-sur-Mer.

Between the calls of this incredibly varied itinerary, travellers will enjoy the fantastic leisure and entertainment facilities on board MSC Orchestra, including swimming pools, state-of-the-art fitness centre, and Bali concept MSC Aurea Spa, or carry on the party in the ship’s bars, lounges and the R32 disco.
