Just Call Them Un-Cruise Adventures

Marking another milestone in its 16-year evolution, adventure cruise line InnerSea Discoveries/American Safari Cruises has officially changed its name to Un-Cruise Adventures. The line operates seven boats carrying 22-88 guests in Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico’s Sea of Cortés, Columbia and Snake Rivers and Coastal Washington and British Columbia. 

“We’ve experienced phenomenal growth and success over the last four years,” said Dan Blanchard, principal and CEO. “What began as yacht cruising under the American Safari Cruises name has now expanded to include more styles of Un-Cruise Adventures, and this name change reflects that growth.”

The company has three expedition vessels, 60-guest Wilderness Adventurer, 76-guest Wilderness Discoverer and 76-guest Wilderness Explorer, offering Active Adventures for those desiring more outdoor explorations at a lower price point. Three yachts offer Luxury Adventures, 22-guest Safari Quest, 36-guest Safari Explorer and 86-guest Safari Endeavour, an inclusive, upscale experience along with adventure activities. The 88-guest Safari Legacy, a replica Victorian steamer, debuts in August 2013 and will offer inclusive Heritage Adventures focusing on Living History aboard and ashore through presentations and tours. Charter Adventures are also offered on all boats.

New in 2013
 

In 2013, Safari Legacy begins operating in Alaska and then sails on the Columbia and Snake Rivers in fall and spring. It debuts Heritage Adventures, a new style of Un-Cruise Adventure, with a focus on Living History aboard and ashore. In November, Wilderness Explorer will begin sailing Active Adventures in the Hawaiian Islands between Oahu and Hawaii, the Big Island.  And three Alaska Unleashed departures are scheduled for the Wilderness Adventurer in Alaska for adventurers desiring an amped up week of high adventure.

Moving forward, all company materials will change to reflect the new name of Un-Cruise Adventures. The company’s website URL will change to www.un-cruise.com.

InnerSeas Offer Hawaiian Adventure

Hawaii-bound vacationers looking to explore the islands next winter have a new, innovative option at hand with InnerSea Discoveries’ launch of AdventureBound Hawaii, a week-long Active Adventure by expedition vessel. The multi-island "Un-Cruise" aboard the 76-guest Wilderness Explorer includes adventure activities by sea and ashore for up-close explorations of sea life and the four islands of Oahu, Maui, Lana’i and Hawaii, the Big Island.

From November 2013 to April 2014, the Explorer will sail seven-night AdventureBound cruises between Oahu and the Big Island and reverse. The itinerary visits Ka’ena Point State Park, Wai’anae Harbor, Maui, Molokini, Lana’i, Honomalino Bay, Opihihali and Kailua-Kona. Guests may find themselves snorkelling with colourful fish, sea turtles, whale sharks and dolphins; hiking on Oahu and Lana’i to see less visited areas of the islands; or night snorkelling with Giant Pacific Manta rays and exploring the historic town of Kailua on the Big Island. Off Maui, guests enjoy a snorkel at Molokini, a crescent shaped, partially submerged volcanic crater rich in sea life and then an exploration of the historic town of Lahaina. 

On board, expedition guides provide interpretation on excursions ashore and at sea. Innovative meals are served buffet style to accommodate a flexible schedule of adventure activities. Alaska Unleashed With InnerSea Discoveries

Hiking in Alaskan backcountry, a glacier trek and extended kayaking in ice-filled fjords and wilderness bays are on the menu for outdoor enthusiasts eager to discover south-east Alaska’s remote beauty on an adventure cruise with InnerSea Discoveries. On three 'Alaska Unleashed' departures in summer 2013, the Wilderness Adventurer (above) guest capacity is slashed from 60 to 36 guests for an amped up week of high adventure, and guests booked by January 11 will receive a $100 shipboard credit per person.

• July 13: John and Jan Straley, Alaska residents; John is an author and Jan is a marine biologist.

New All-In-One Brochure for 'Un-Cruise Adventures'

Travellers seeking Un-Cruise Adventures may now reach for one brochure detailing InnerSea Discoveries’ Active Adventures and American Safari Cruises’ Luxury and Heritage Adventures.  

The new 72-pager details Un-Cruise Adventures in south-east Alaska, Mexico’s Sea of Cortés, the Hawaiian Islands, Columbia and Snake Rivers, coastal Washington and British Columbia. Three styles of adventure cruises are available on four yachts and three expedition vessels carrying from 22 to 88 guests. The brochure covers adventures from November 2012 through to April 2014.

Active Adventures

Active Adventure cruises focus on adventure activities outside such as trekking, kayaking, paddle-boarding and skiff excursions. Activity levels vary from shore walks to all-day hikes or kayaking excursions. Offered at a moderate price point, meals and activities are included. Massage, alcohol and port fees/taxes are extra.

Luxury Adventures

Luxury Adventure cruises are more inclusive and combine soft adventure activities with extra amenities and comforts on board. Voyages in five un-cruise destinations include all meals; premium spirits, wines and microbrews; activities and port fees/taxes; a massage Safari Explorer and Endeavour.

Three yachts, the 22-guest Safari Quest, 36-guest Safari Explorer and 86-guest Safari Endeavour, offer luxury adventure cruises. Alaska Unleashed With InnerSea Discoveries

To satisfy outdoor adventure cravings in the remote wilderness of south-east Alaska, InnerSea Discoveries has dedicated its chic little the Wilderness Adventurer to three Alaska Unleashed departures in summer 2013. The itinerary promises longer and more exhilarating hiking and kayaking adventures in daily small-group excursions.

Sailing between Juneau and Ketchikan, and reverse, the week-long "un-cruise adventures" depart on June 8, July 13 and August 10. A regional expert sails aboard each cruise to share knowledge of the area’s ecology, history and culture.

On Alaska Unleashed adventures, guests can enjoy more extended excursions such as kayaking into the furthest reaches of Misty Fjords, hiking Cascade Creek trail to Swan Lake in Thomas Bay and the spectacular multi-sport adventure of Patterson Lake - and 11-mile round-trip trek with 6 miles of kayaking to and from the face of Patterson Glacier.

InnerSea Discoveries’ 76-guest expedition vessel Wilderness Explorer begins active adventure cruising among the Hawaiian Islands in autumn 2013. The boat joins the line’s 36-guest upscale yacht Safari Explorer offering island explorations from the sea.

From November 2013 through April 2014, the Explorer will sail seven-night Adventure Bound Hawaii cruises between Oahu and the Big Island and reverse. The itinerary visits Ka’ena Point State Park, Wai’anae Harbor, Maui, Lana’i, Honomalino Bay, Opihihali and Kailua-Kona. New-Look Duo Set Sail For Alaska

Sporting new hull colours, interior spaces, furnishings and amenities, the 86-guest Safari Endeavour and 76-guest Wilderness Explorer emerged from major renovation projects this month for a dual-boat christening event in Seattle and a summer season of un-cruise adventures in Alaska. InnerSea Discoveries Ready For Inaugural Alaska Season

Taking delivery of their two inaugural cruise ships, Wilderness Discoverer and Wilderness Adventurer, new adventuring cruise line InnerSea Discoveries are now ready for their inaugural season in South-East Alaska.

A SeaAn underwater bow camera, high-tech kayak launchers and iPod docks are just a few of the new features installed on the two expedition ships, which begin sailing later this month (May 7).

Kayaking adventures will be a popular activity, with each ship carrying 28 assorted styles of Necky kayaks—stable, roomy and good for pros and novices. With multiple guided trips throughout each cruise, the ease of launching and return of kayaks is a priority. Both ships have been outfitted with custom made EZ Dock kayak launching systems, able to quickly and safely launch four kayaks at a time. Kayakers can also easily guide themselves back onto the ship using the system.

“Though our focus is on activities outside the ship such as hiking and kayaking, we have put a lot of thought into new features to make the experience on board even more enriching and comfortable,” said Tim Jacox, executive vice president of sales and marketing. “Guests will return to a relaxing and inviting atmosphere after a day spent outside exploring nature.”

An underwater camera mounted on the ships’ bow will stream video from the underwater world to flatscreen televisions in all guest rooms and the lounge. A close-up view of life underwater will amaze with a large variety of sea life and at times, views of dolphins playing in the bow’s wake. An underwater hydrophone pipes in the otherworldly sound of whales communicating with each other.

All guest cabins are above deck with large windows and feature upscale amenities to ensure a warm, inviting home-away-from-home for active adventurers. Eco-friendly memory foam mattresses are included in all cabins as either a twin, double or queen bed. Flatscreen televisions with DVD players, iPod docking stations and eco-friendly bath amenities take these expedition ships to a new level of creature comfort.

Hot tubs situated outside on deck provide a spectacular setting for guests to relax and take in the scenery. Each ship also has a sauna, exercise equipment, complimentary on-deck yoga classes, a large resource library, well-stocked DVD library and board games. 36-guest luxury yacht Safari Explorer cruises Hawaiian Islands Nov.-April

Hawaai bound travellers have an incentive to book an inter-island yacht cruise aboard American Safari Cruises’ 36-guest Safari Explorer. To celebrate its inaugural season in Hawaii, the line is offering guests a $150 per person travel credit for reservations made from June through July 29, 2011.

Sailing weeklong or 10-night active, adventure itineraries between Maui and the Big Island from November 2011 through April 2012, the all-inclusive, upscale 36-guest Safari Explorer visits Moloka’i, Lana’i and Molokini.

Guests who book between June and July 29, 2011 will receive a travel credit of $150 per person or $300 per couple. The credit is intended to help guests defray air costs to the Hawaiian Islands where they will embark on their adventure cruise.

New Small Ship Line offers Adventure Cruises

Small-ship line InnerSea Discoveries, sister company to American Safari Cruises, offers exhilarating cruises in Alaska in 2011 that go beyond the norm. Each of the four itineraries ranging from 7 to 14 nights is designed to take advantage of the wonder and wildlife that are hallmarks of the Alaskan wilderness. Rather than just being an observer, guests are invited to participate in daily included activities such as kayaking, hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, exploration by small water craft and more.

Travelling with a maximum of 49 like-minded guests aboard the expedition ships Wilderness Adventurer and Wilderness Discoverer, guests can expect exemplary service, delicious cuisine with an emphasis on local foods served family style or buffet depending on the day’s activities, a 1:3 crew to guest ratio and access to top notch gear.
